Copenhagen is one of Europe's oldest capitals and is Denmark's origins of the parliament and monarchy. This city is the largest in Denmark and is the home of over one million people. It's so easy to explore the culture, music, art, theater and architecture design, plus it will be hard to find time to sleep as this city is known as the party city in all of Denmark; there's great fun to be had no matter what time of day or night.

The best time to visit is in the summer, as Copenhagen can be very cold in the winter. Accommodation can vary from the youth hostels, budget hotels all the way to the luxurious five star hotels.

Best Attractions in Copenhagen

There are a multitude of museums, theaters, art galleries and concerts to choose from, which will please all visitors with all their different tastes in entertainment. Consider the Copenhagen City Hall Square, which is located in the center of the city that can seat over 50,000 people. At one side of the square is the Tivoli Gardens, which is world famous for its amusement park built in the 19th century. After listening to a concert, stroll down to the Gardens and eat at one of the many restaurant, and enjoy the rides while experiencing the atmosphere of an old world village. The other side of the Hall is the Stoget, a pedestrian street filled with excellent shops where you will find most anything different and unusual to exquisite and tasteful.

The Amalienborg Palace is another famous attraction, which is the residence of the Danish Royal family. It's actually four separate buildings that surround a square. Every noon visitors are treated to the changing of the guard.

The Copenhagen Zoo, the Aquarium, the New Carlsberg Glyptotek and the National Museum are great sites to visit if you have children. Public beaches are not far from the city and easy to get to; be sure after a visit to the beach, to experience the Danish saunas, one of the best cultural aspects of Copenhagen.

Food and Dance in Copenhagen


Copenhagen cuisine ranges from the basic dishes, which include smorrebrod, an open sandwich, frikadeller (meatballs), and you'll love the polser, a hotdog type sandwich, to the splendid experience of fine dining. Recent immigration of Middle Easterners and North Africans have started up restaurants that are growing and beginning to influence some of Copenhagen's main dishes.

The pubs and cafes are plentiful in Copenhagen and offers travelers a taste of the local fare and culture of each neighborhood. The nightlife is booming and most nightclubs, which play jazz to disco, only start at midnight and last until the sunrises, and sometimes longer. Casino's are international and is a favorite for most travelers who like to gamble.

The Opera House has one of Europe's most up-to-date facilities and features the best opera performances to please even the travelers who are not big opera fans. The Danish Royal Theater, which was built back in 1872, is home to the world renown ballet company.

Unique points of Interest in Copenhagen

For the more laid-back visitors, check out the Christiania area in Copenhagen. This area was developed around the 1970's hippy era and the hippies made it their own by creating their own laws that are separate from the Danish government. You'll enjoy the diversity this area offers and you won't go away empty handed; the art is astounding and the culture will give you a flash-back.

The Little Mermaid statue is one of Copenhagen's better and most famous landmarks that has attracted well over a million tourists every single year. Don't miss the Nyhavn, it's an old harbor that is set in a picturesque area and offers visitors and different taste of Copenhagen with all the quays filled with boats and is fun to explore.

Opened in July of 2000, is the Oresund Bridge. It's one of the largest contruction projects in Europe. The bridge connects the city of Copenhagen to Malmo in Sweden. The economic growth that has opened up due to the Oresund Bridge will bring even more prosperity and new development to an already bustling and vibrant city. Plus, expands your sightseeing opportunities into Sweden.
