One of the most spectacular cities and the most popular tourist destinations is Athens, Greece. Athens was born out of the ancient Greek civilization and grew into a modern cosmopolitan city. Athens culture and rich history, which is in every aspect, every corner and nook and cranny, offers all its visitors a extravagant amount of delights. Athens is the capital of Greece and is a large city, housing over 3 million people, which makes Athens home to one-third of all of Greece's population. Ancient Athens Around 500 BC to 323 BC, the Golden Age of Greece was in full swing with amazing cultural and inspiring intellectual advancements. As the title suggests, Athens was the Cradle of Civilization, ringing in a era filled with developments in the fields of physics, mathematics, architecture, politics. The only thing that stop this flourishing of ideas was the war with Sparta. Athens Climate The peak tourist period is during the summer months, which makes for a very crowded city and the accommodations can be on the expensive side, and this is also the hottest time of the year. But, if you are into a hot nightlife, then this is exactly the time of year to come. Everything is in full swing in the summer; the beaches are active all day and night. Athens is a more relaxing city during the spring and fall seasons, because the weather is very nice and comfortable; this is a perfect time to visit Athens. There are less tourists and the hotel prices are very reasonable. Even the beaches are not crowded and reservations at the restaurants are not necessary. Winter months are wet and rainy, not a good time to visit Athens at all, unless you like the rain. Things to do in Athens Most sites, which are located in the ancient city, are close together, like the crown jewel of the monuments, the Acroplolis. The Parthenon, up on a raised hill, is easily spotted no matter where you are in the city.
