African Street Parades in the Bahamas

As is true for almost everywhere else in the world the Bahamas have a dynamic and sometimes complicated history. And while there are many intriguing factors and historical characters that are associated with it, most of the people who visit, or dream of visiting, the islands today are more interested in the great food, great beaches and great views that are associated with them. And these and other fabulous cultural elements come in big supply. The Bahamas are one of the most popular choices in the world for a romantic vacation destination and many of the five star hotels Bahamas are full of honeymooners and other lovers, though there are also plenty of families and groups of friends that vacation there.

There are numerous festivals that occur on the islands every year and a number of them are unique. Some of them take place during a season of harvest for a particular crop that is important to the island. In addition, there are numerous street parades that take place and these are a favorite for tourists as they get to enjoy and experience some of the local culture, while also savoring the great food, drink and entertainment. A particular type of African street parade, known as the Junkanoo, is the most common and poplar of these and feature traditional dance, music and art. They are the primary events that occur on Boxing Day of every year and also part of various other holiday celebrations.
